To add a Thing on your desktop browser:

  1. Go to thingealogy.com in your browser and sign in. 

  2. Click on “Things” in the top banner.

  3. Click the “+” icon underneath the top banner on the far right. The “Add Thing” window will appear.

  4. Type the name of your Thing in the “Title” box.

  5. Type the story or history about your Thing in the “Description” box. (You can also add this later.)

  6. Click on “Add photo” to upload a photo of your Thing. The “Add image” window will appear.

    1. Click on “Select a file to upload” and choose the photo from your computer, or drag and drop the photo you want into the window. The “Crop image” window will appear. 

    2. Optional: Crop or rotate your photo as needed by clicking on the icons above your image.

    3. Click the “Save” button at the bottom.

  7. Optional: Click “Add file” under the “Recording” section to include audio of the story or history about your Thing. The “Recording Options” window will appear. You have two options:

    1. Choose an audio file from your computer, or drag and drop the file you want into the window.

    2. Record your audio now.

      1. Click on the “Start Recording” button at the bottom of the window and tell your story.

      2. Click on the “Stop Recording” button at the bottom to end the recording.

      3. Click on the teal right-facing arrow to listen to your recording.

      4. Click on the “Clear Recording” button at the bottom or click on the red X to erase your recording and start over. You can also click on the black X at the top right of the window to exit the recording window.

  8. Click on the “Save” button at the bottom to save your audio recording.

  9. Click on the “Workplace” dropdown to select the Workspace your Thing will be included in. (See more info on Workspaces and other Thingealogy features here.)

  10. Click on the “Collection” dropdown to select the Collection your Thing will be included in. (See more info on Collections and other Thingealogy features here.)

  11. Optional: Click on the “Beneficiary” dropdown to add the Beneficiary of your Things. (See more info on Beneficiaries and other Thingealogy features here.)

  12. Optional: Type in the monetary value of your Thing into the “Value” box.

  13. Click the “Save” button at the bottom.





To add a Thing on your iPhone app:

  1. Open the Thingealogy app on your iPhone and sign in (if you’re not already logged in).

  2. Tap on the “+” icon in the top right corner. Two options will appear.

  3. Tap on the “Add New Thing” option on the right. 

  4. Add a photo. You will have two options:

    1. Take a photo now. 

      1. The first time, an Apple notification may appear asking you to allow Thingealogy to access your camera. Tap the “OK” button if you want to take photos directly in the Thingealogy app.

      2. Tap the camera icon at the top left.

      3. Snap your photo and tap on “Use Photo”. (You can tap on “Retake” to retake the photo as needed.) 

    2. Select a photo from your camera roll.

      1. The first time, an Apple notification may appear asking you to allow Thingealogy to access your photos. Click the “OK” button if you want to upload photos from your iPhone camera roll. Your photos will auto-populate in the Thingealogy app.

      2. Tap the photo(s) you want to include. (You can select up to 9 photos, and the first photo you select will visually represent your Thing.)

  5. Tap “Next” in the top right corner.

  6. Optional: Tap “Crop” to crop the photo(s), and tap “Fix” to edit as needed. Click “Next” in the top right when finished.

  7. Type the name of your Thing in the “Title” box. (The first time, you may receive an Apple notification - see the next step for instructions.)

  8. Optional: Add an audio recording.

    1. The first time, an Apple notification may appear asking you to allow Thingealogy to access your speech audio. Tap the “OK” button if you want to record audio directly in the Thingealogy app.

    2. Tap the microphone icon to start your recording and tell your story. 

    3. Tap the pause icon to stop your recording.

  9. Optional: Type the story or history about your Thing in the “Description” box, or your audio recording can be automatically transcribed into written text. The text will be editable if you need to make changes.

  10. Tap “Workplace” and follow the steps to select the Workspace your Thing will be included in. (See more info on Workspaces and other Thingealogy features here.)

  11. Tap “Collection” and follow the steps to select the Collection your Thing will be included in. (See more info on Collections and other Thingealogy features here.)

  12. Optional: Tap “Beneficiary” and follow the steps to add a Beneficiary of your Things. (See more info on Beneficiaries and other Thingealogy features here.)

  13. Optional: Type in the monetary value of your Thing in the “Value” box.

  14. Tap “Done” at the top right.
